Ready to make a lasting change?

A healthier you, wherever you are.

Stress relief tip #1: Start your day with a smile

Our thoughts, emotions, and behaviors are interconnected. When you’re stressed, you hold tension in your neck and in your brows, which reinforces negative emotions and feelings.

So make it a habit of starting your day with a smile. Just turning your frown upside down (cheesy, we know) could help reduce lingering stress and actually help you feel happier, too.

Need help cracking a smile?

  • Start your morning reading a funny column or blog.
  • Watch a video of your dog trying (and failing) to catch a fly.
  • Listen to a comedy sketch or podcast as you get ready for the day.
  • Play with your (very silly) kid or pet.

Stress relief tip #2: Stop saying “I’m busy!”

You know what’s stressful? Talking—and thinking—about how busy you are. (Although this is probably our favorite thing to talk about. Other than motivation.)

Saying things like “I’m so overwhelmed” can keep up the negative emotions and physical behaviors that add to our stress levels.

Spending lots of time stressing over a jam-packed day is completely normal, and we all do it—but it’s really not a good use of our time. You probably realize this already, but just reminding yourself can help you refocus on getting through your to-do list.

We’ve found that sometimes, the least stressful thing to do is just get things done.

Stress relief tip #3: Make “yes” a choice

“Yes” just rolls off the tongue, doesn’t it?

And for most of us, it’s become the default. (And that’s how you ended up switching shifts with Pavel three weeks in a row.)

But the truth is, “yes” is a choice. And you make a lot more choices in a day than you think you do. We know that some choices aren’t really choices. But a lot of them are…

Take one thankless thing off your plate today and relish in the opportunity you’ve created for you. (Sorry, Pavel.)

Stress relief tip #4: Discover the joy of missing out

Missing out doesn’t need to inspire fear. In fact it can be pretty great.

When we “miss out,” we also make time to prioritize our health, work toward our goals, or just do nothing.

Next time you find yourself worried about what you might miss if you don’t join in on the fun, think of all the wonderful things that could happen if you politely decline. (You know, like a full night’s sleep. Or time to watch that video of your dog again.)

That’s four new tips you can use to stress less, starting now. These will help you both short-term and long-term, so try to incorporate them into your everyday life. After all, the more you practice them, the easier they’ll become.

And remember, it’s okay—and even encouraged—to say no.
