Let’s face it, the holidays are tough for everyone. At this point, you might be thinking, “It’s time to throw in the towel, and start fresh in the new year!” – but wait one second! It is possible to stick to your goals during the holidays, and we’re here to let you in on a little secret to success– snacking!

Yep, snacking. That might not be the answer you were expecting, but snacking can help in a variety of ways during the holidays.

Reason #1: We’re staying fueled as we tackle stressful tasks, like shopping for the family, wrapping gifts for friends and family members, cooking, and hosting guests in our home!

Reason #2: We’re preventing ravenous hunger that can easily take over our better judgement when we finally arrive at the holiday party with all the cute cookies.

Now that we know why snacking is the secret to a healthy holiday, let’s check out a few snack options, and discover why they’re healthy options for us!

On-the-go snacks

1. Apple + almond butter with cinnamon

An apple and almond butter is a classic go-to snack for a reason! This combo has carbs, protein, healthy fat–all the essential macronutrients that your body needs to stay fueled and full. Cinnamon and nutmeg add a little holiday flair to this treat.

2. Small handful of cocoa dusted almonds + 2 clementines

Another key to success during the holidays is allowing our taste buds to have a treat every so often. Cocoa dusted almonds are a great way to treat yourself, because instead of a candy-coated exterior, they have just a thin dusting of cocoa! That means low-sugar, and filling, all while satisfying our sweet tooth. Add a fruit like clementines to round out this snack!

3. Greek yogurt and berries

Greek yogurt has been a hot topic for some time now, but did you know that they also have drinkable greek yogurt?! This is a perfect on-the-go snack packed with protein, calcium, vitamin B12, and probiotics.

This idea is a great one if you’re looking for a healthy appetizer to serve your guests. Add some pita chips to the plate for variety!

5. Whole wheat crackers with your favorite cheese

If you’re worried about your next holiday party, and whether or not healthy options will be served, bring your own! Swap the traditional chips and dip with raw veggies and hummus, and bring some whole wheat crackers and cheese to balance out that glass of wine.
