How Alicia lost 20 pounds in less than 4 months

January 1, 2017 Alicia embraced the “new year, new me” mentality. Struggling to do it on her own, when she saw an Ad for Noom she decided to give it a shot — and the rest is history!

The daily articles and challenges Alicia received were a huge asset for her.

It was great to be able to focus on something small every day to continually improve on myself and build on those skills. I was pleasantly surprised at the vast array of topics covered. Once I started working out more, I was constantly sore. The next day, there was an article about stretching and yoga. I had a stressful few days at work which lead to stress eating and that was the next article. It was great to have these short lessons that are real issues that I deal with on a regular basis.

Having a group of peers to turn to for support, advice, and inspiration has been so valuable for Alicia.

Hearing their experiences and best practices helps me continue to push through the hard days. Between motivational quotes, new exercise routines, and creative and delicious recipes, I know that my group is here to support me. And I want to support them!

The knowledge, guidance, and accountability of a professional health coach has been invaluable.

It’s one of the things that drew me to Noom in the first place. It’s been great to have someone there to help push me through the challenging days, celebrate the wins and know that I’m being held accountable everyday. Coach Tiffany has been great at helping me to set achievable goals, frequent check-ins and talking through how I’m feeling to get to the root of why I’m doing what I’m doing. She is at the core of my support system!

Over the course of 16 weeks, Alicia lost 20 lbs. But her transformation extends far beyond the number on the scale.

I have more energy, I’m sleeping better, I’m more flexible, and I’m generally feeling happier! Without a doubt, I have an improved relationship with food. I am no longer craving fried foods or sweets regularly and I feel a difference when I do eat them. My body is loving all the fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains – if I go a day without eating a salad, I start to crave it.

One of her proudest accomplishments is developing a positive relationship with exercise.

When I started with Noom, Tiffany and I would discuss how much I disliked working out and how we could fit it into my week – small chunks at a time. She helped me figure out what type of workout was best for me and how I can use it as a healthy crutch when I was bored, stressed or had trouble sleeping. Now I find myself looking forward to planning my workouts for the week. When I’ve had a stressful day, I still want to reach for the cookies but feel so much more satisfied when I complete a tough workout instead.

What worked for Alicia was that her course was sustainable! Over the past 5 years, she had tried Beachbody, Bikini Body, Atkins, and MyFitnessPal in an attempt to lose weight, but every time she would lose a few pounds, she would gain it all back (and then some!).

I immediately realized a difference with Noom. Tracking my food by category, trying to hit my step goals, increasing my physical activity a little at a time and being held accountable to my coach and group, I gradually built upon the habits without completely changing my life in one day. I have developed healthy habits that are now second nature to me.

Looking back, Alicia finds it hard to believe how much her mindset has shifted and how much she’s grown in just 16 weeks.

This course helped teach me how to love myself and my body. I learned how to not beat myself up with each slip up. It was so important to remember that each day will be different – your weight fluctuates, you will crave different foods, you will feel different energy levels and there will be an ebb and flow to your motivation. And most importantly, I didn’t gain all this weight in one day, so it’s unrealistic to expect to lose it all in a short amount of time. By joining and completing the Noom program, I learned how to lead a healthy lifestyle while still tackling all that life throws my way.
