Press Release: CityMD Partners with Mobile Health Tech Leader Noom Inc. to Offer Urgent Care Patients Preventive Care Tools

by | May 5, 2015 | Last updated Mar 17, 2023

New York, NY – May 5, 2015 – CityMD, New York’s largest urgent care provider committed to handling life’s mini-medical emergencies, announced a partnership with New York-based wellness technology maker Noom Inc. Focused on preventing diabetes, Noom will team up with CityMD to offer pre-diabetic individuals the proper tools to inhibit this terrible disease.

“Many patients we see haven’t selected a primary care physician and therefore are unaware of opportunities to control and manage their health,” said Dr. Richard Park, CEO of CityMD. “As a resource to the community, we believe it is our obligation to provide high quality care both in and outside of our practices in a way that positively impacts the quality of life for our patients. We believe by leveraging technology, our patients can be enabled and empowered to take a more active role in their health. We at CityMD want to be their partner in that journey.”

With 40 locations in New York City, Long Island, Westchester and Rockland County, CityMD has become New York’s premier leader in urgent care. Exemplifying a ‘People First’ philosophy, state-of-the-art, personalized healthcare, CityMD is committed to care coordination by connecting patients back to their primary care physician.

“CityMD and Noom Inc.’s shared vision for this partnership is to bridge the very important gap between the front lines of urgent care and the ongoing, preventive care of high-risk patients,” said Saeju Jeong, CEO of Noom. “We are excited to work together to reach such a large number of New Yorkers with these tools.”

Patients identified as pre-diabetic by CityMD, will be enrolled in the pilot program, receive instructions on how to download the Noom Health app from the App Store or Google Play store. Using the Noom Health platform, CityMD will begin a 16-week program for diabetes prevention that uses the intensive curriculum of the CDC’s National Diabetes Prevention Program.

Noom’s apps boast more than 32 million installs worldwide. Building on the company’s flagship Coach platform (which delivers an average weight loss of 10 lbs. and 65% retention of users over a four month period) the company recently launched, Noom Health, designed specifically for payers, providers and employers to use in the delivery of behavior change programs to prevent chronic diseases such as diabetes.

Healthcare providers who use Noom Health have access to a customizable dashboard and messaging system allowing them to monitor and communicate directly with their program participants. These tools were tested and refined as part of a beta program that used Noom Health as a virtual compliment to a regional diabetes prevention program being delivered in 2014 by EmblemHealth, New York’s leading health insurance and wellness company.
