Meet Noom Health Coaches: 16 Quick Tips to Reach Your Step Goal

by | Mar 5, 2018 | Last updated May 17, 2022

Reaching your step goal isn’t always easy. Luckily, our coaches’ quick tips can really add up!

Coach Adrienne F.

Set an alarm
Whether you’re at home or at work, one quick and easy way to get more steps in is to set a 5-minute timer every hour or two and start walking. When your timer goes off, turn around to walk back, and just like that, 10 minute flew by!

Take the stairs
Watch your steps add up as your cruise the stairs any chance you get. This works for escalators at the mall too!

Coach Carolyn

Multi-task
Catching up on your favorite podcast? Get outside and get walking! There are plenty of habits you can pair together, especially when you think you don’t have the time to get those steps in.

Re-route
Choose the longer route when walking somewhere to get those extra steps.

Coach Hannah

Commute actively
Live within walking distance to stores or work? Walking there will help you get those steps in and still get you where you need to be.

Phone it in
Need to make some phone calls? Walk and talk to get some extra steps in!

Coach Johanna

Cut your commute
Using public transport to go to work? Get off one or two stops earlier and walk the rest of the way! Not only will you get more steps in, but you’ll also arrive at work energized and ready to seize the day.

Coach Maggie

Dance it out
At the end or midday through your day, crank up your favorite tune and dance it out. Not only will it get you moving and step up your game, but it’ll also help you channel some of the stress of the day!

Coach Nicole E.

Walk a dog
If you love animals but don’t have any of your own, sign up to be a dog walker for others in your community (you can even try an app like Rover or Wag!). Each walk is only 30 minutes, and you might even get paid!

Walk the lot
Whenever you need to drive to the store, pick a parking spot further from the entrance to increase your step count.

Rest actively
Begin to use a restroom that is further away (or even on a different floor) in your home or at your workplace. It may not seem like much, but getting in a few extra steps several times a day really adds up!

Coach Ruth

Netflix and… walk
Pick a Netflix series that you can only watch when you’re on the treadmill. The time passes quickly when you’re engrossed in your favorite show!

Coach Sam G.

Shop it out
Instead of hibernating, go to the mall or a large department store and window shop on those bitterly cold days.

Coach Sasha

Take sunrise steps
Sleep in exercise clothes, set your alarm 10 minutes earlier, and jump start your day with a walk outdoors. You’ll set a positive tone for the day and have a nice head start on your step goal!

Coach Tracy

Make multiple trips
Bringing in grocery bags? Getting a few pages from the printer? Grabbing your lunch and a glass of water? Instead of loading up your arms and carrying much as you can, carry one bag at a time, take one page at a time, or make multiple trips to the breakroom. You’ll be amazed how many steps can add!

Coach Whitney

Make it social
Instead of going out to eat one day or grabbing a coffee, suggest catching up on a walk with a loved one or friend.

Which tip will you try today?
