How losing 20 pounds helped Whitney feel balanced and happier

by | May 30, 2017 | Last updated Dec 21, 2022

After gaining weight throughout college and graduating in 2010, Whitney’s weight continued to creep up a few pounds each year. While for most people, weighing in at 155 lbs wasn’t so “bad,” it was enough to make Whitney feel uncomfortable in her skin and ready to make a change.

Whitney had gone through several periods of trying to lose the weight — joining a gym, changing to her diet, and more — but whatever she tried, it just wouldn’t stick and she’d fall off the bandwagon after a few weeks. With a busy schedule, Whitney needed something that was flexible and could help her on track.

I was also lucky with my timing in that I started Noom when I was doing bar prep, so that gave me a regular schedule every single day where I can fit in exercise and carefully plan my meals and really be able to focus on my eating and exercising habits.

Working with a coach provided her with the accountability she’d been looking for.

With Noom, having a personal coach and a group to help me hold myself accountable was great. Coach Jack really listened to my concerns and roadblocks, but also helped me celebrate my victories and triumphs.

Whitney’s daily lessons and interactive challenges really helped reinforce her knowledge and learn practical ways to change her habits and reach her goals.

To read it in such simple terms and to really apply it to the changes I was currently working on, helped immensely.

Connecting with a group of peers on a similar journey far surpassed any of Whitney’s expectations. Whitney’s group was a constant source of support, encouragement, and motivation, and a safe space for Whitney to learn, grow, and gain strength.

It was wonderful hearing all their successes and to share my own, and it was humbling to hear their struggles and to try to help them move forward. Finding ways to help my group also helped me in my journey. Being able to support them gave me the courage to realize that I should take my own advice.

Over the course of her journey, Whitney has developed new habits, found a greater sense of balance, and truly embraced the lifestyle.

I look forward to going to yoga and the gym. It is easier for me to make good choices when it comes to food. And when it comes to comfort food (like fried foods and cheesy or carb-heavy foods), I’m satisfied after a few bites and don’t need to eat a whole plate of it.

In just 16 weeks, Whitney lost 20 lbs and has been keeping it off. But the changes Whitney’s experienced far surpass the number on the scale — she’s found a new happiness with herself and her life in general.

I feel great and it seems like my energy levels are much higher. I’m happier with myself, both internally and externally.

Over time, Whitney’s learned ways to break down barriers and overcome her obstacles, to bounce back from slips ups and stay on track.

The most valuable concept I learned was to not be discouraged if I fall off the wagon for a day or even a weekend. It really helped me stay on top of my journey and not be discouraged when my weight would fluctuate a pound or two.

After completing her customized course, Whitney feels confident that the positive changes she’s made will stick for the long run.

I’m confident that I can make good food choices from here on out, and I’m loving the feeling of being strong, so I don’t ever want to stop exercising!

Congratulations on all of your success, Whitney! We look forward to continuing to follow your journey to a healthier, happier you.
