With the New Year around the corner, people have begun setting their weight loss resolutions.

What will it be this year? A juice cleanse? A low-carb diet? A prepared meal service?

The fact is, diets don’t work!

Diets focus on making short-term changes – eat this, not that. While what we eat is important, following a structured meal plan and changing the way we eat alone is not enough to keep us going in the long-run. Diets don’t look at the deep-rooted thoughts, emotions, and feelings that impact our food choices in the first place. Diets don’t ask why we reach for a bag of chips instead of an apple. Diets don’t change your habits.

Sure, people can lose weight by drinking green juice all day or cutting out bread or eating overpriced frozen meals. But how long can someone keep this off?

In order to lose weight and keep it off, we need to look at what we eat, why we eat, how we eat, and who we are as eaters.

Diets don’t work but lifestyle changes do.

Changing your lifestyle starts by changing your brain. It starts with:

  • Being mindful of your food and activity choices
  • Uncovering your triggers and changing your reactions
  • Identifying your challenges and breaking down your barriers
  • Building a toolkit to overcome obstacles and achieve lifelong success

Think about it like this:

Tell someone what to eat, they’ll be healthy for a day.
Teach someone how to make healthy choices, they’ll be healthy for a lifetime.
