CardioTrainer v3.1: Updated Music Integration, Workout History Redesign and New Exercise Types

Thursday, November 18th, 2010

A new version of CardioTrainer is available on the Market, and this update features some new redesigns of CardioTrainer’s essential features. Read on for the details!

Redesigned Workout History

Your workout history is a great way to see your progress over time and look back over your previous exercise activity. We’ve introduced two important features to help you review all of your hard work: filtering and monthly statistics. When you click on the button to the right of the green “Add Workout” button, you can filter your workout history to only show a single type of exercise in the list. We have also placed headers at the beginning of each month that show the total distance and total number of calories burned in that month. At the very top of your workout list, you’ll also see your overall totals for your entire workout history. We hope that these improvements help you look back and make easy to chart your progress!

The updated history screen, and the new exercise type filter.

New Music integration Design

CardioTrainer’s new music integration interface makes it really easy to choose the music you want to listen to before you start working out, and control it while you’re exercising. Right after you click on the “Start Workout” button, you can tap or drag the music note to the left to reveal the music controls. You can select a playlist, turn shuffle on/off, or disable music playback. When the workout starts, a song from your playlist will play automatically and display the song title. If you turn off music integration, the music controls will disappear as soon as you start the workout.

To open the music integration controls, click on the music note. You can set your options, and the music will automatically start playing when you start your workout.

New Exercise Types!

Many users have also been requesting new exercise types, and we’re happy to have added the following have been added to the list:

- boxing
- cross-country skiing
- mountain biking
- stairs / stair climber
- jump rope
- rowing / rowing machine
- spinning
- yard work (raking leaves, gardening)
- racquet sports (tennis, squash, racquetball)
- nordic walking

Please let us know if you have any suggestions for exercise types that should be added to the list in the comments below! The update is available on the Android Market right now, so install the newest version and let us know what you think!

CardioTrainer v3.0: Activity Feed and more!

Friday, November 5th, 2010

Today we’re launching a brand new social feature for CardioTrainer to get you motivated and keep you informed about how your friends and family are staying active: the CardioTrainer Activity Feed.

Click on the “Friend Activity” button on the CardioTrainer home screen, and you’ll see a list of your friends who also have CardioTrainer installed on their Android phone. Your friends will also see your recent exercise activity and 7-day calorie medal listed in their feeds, if you choose to share it. If you connect to your Facebook account, you can also comment on your friends’ workouts right to their Facebook walls.

Before diving into the activity feed, you’ll be asked to set some basic sharing preferences that allow you to control who you’re sharing your workout activity with. You can change these settings at any time by just clicking on the “sharing settings” button.

The activity feed is a great tool that you, your friends and family can use to motivate each other to stay active. Our hope is that seeing what everyone is up to will help spark some extra excitement and encourage you to get up and get out. As always, this is first version of the feature and we already have some awesome ideas for what to do next.

This update also includes a fix for the broken music integration on the HTC Incredible phones, as well as some other bugs fixes.

Please give the activity feed a try, and let us know what you think. Your feedback is always really important in how we decide to make improvements, so we are very excited to hear from you!

CardioTrainer v2.8.1: Split times on the map and bug fixes

Thursday, October 14th, 2010

CardioTrainer v2.8.1 was just released to the Android Market, and it includes a very cool new feature, as well as some small bug fixes.

Split times on the workout map

Have you ever gotten back from a walk or bike ride and wondered how far away the first mile of the workout was, or how fast each mile was? With the latest update, you’ll now see the split time of each mile right on the map of your workout. All of the split times will be automatically calculated for all of the workouts in your history, and automatically displayed when you select a track to view more details.

Music Integration fixes

We’ve fixed the music integration problem with all Nexus One phones running Android 2.2. We’re still  working on fixing the music integration with the other devices that have issues, and we’ll be rolling out these fixes in the next few updates (The HTC Incredible is up next!).

Other bug fixes

- The ability to move CardioTrainer to the SD card has been restored.

- There is now a link to go directly to the CardioTrainer settings page from the Calorie Medals ongoing notification. This makes it much easier to hide the notification if you don’t want to see how many calories you’ve burned in the past seven days.

- UI fixes – The minimum/maximum/average speed display problem on workout “statistics” page has been fixed.

Please send us any feedback, especially if you encounter any problems!
